This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Road I Ride is the remarkable story of one woman’s solo journey around the world by bicycle. Juliana Buhring had been mired in a dark hole of depression after the death of a man she loved, and when an acquaintance suggested they honor his memory by biking across Canada, she thought, “Canada? Why not the world?” And why not alone. She had never seriously ridden a bicycle before. She had no athletic experience or corporate sponsorship, but with just eight months of preparation, Juliana Buhring departed from Naples, Italy, in July 2012 aiming to become the first woman to circumnavigate the globe. She set out believing she might not ever return, but that she had nothing to lose. Over 152 days, Juliana’s ride spanned four continents and 18,060 miles. She traversed small-town and big-mountain America, Australian desert expanses, South Asian rainforests and villages, and Turkish plains. She suffered innumerable breakdowns, severe food poisoning, hostile pursuers, and the international longing for a good Italian espresso. When she crossed the finish line into Naples before the end of the year, she officially became the fastest woman to cycle the world (beating prior men’s records, to boot). Accomplishing what she never thought she could, buoyed by the outpouring of support from friends and strangers, Juliana rediscovered herself. In the process she proved that there are no extraordinary people—there are only people who decide to do extraordinary things.

Book excerpt: Conventional wisdom holds that fathers have few parenting skills and that mothers always know best. The single father is often considered a mythical creature, found only in sitcoms as an object of humor or pity. Where does that leave real single dads? Too often, it makes them susceptible to overcompensation or apathy. Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He’s traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who’ve survived parenting and have hope to offer. There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries—just authentic, downto- earth wisdom from one dad to another.

Book excerpt: A four-thousand-mile bicycle trip gives you plenty of time to contemplate the universe, life, and love. For Lou, turning fifty meant it was time to re-evaluate everything. So the ex-ski bum from Vail has a custom bike built, and he heads off from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on the trip of a lifetime. At this time, Lou has no ties to a job or familyand his relationship needs time to settle. It was time to embark on the bike tour he had always dreamed of. As cooler fall air teases gold from the quaking aspens, he looks north, toward the national parks of the West, across the Cascades to the Pacific Northwest, and down the California coast. Three months later, hes in Palm Springs, California. With countless hours spent pedaling his Jamison Coda, he has plenty of time to review his past. His is a life story peppered with hilarious escapades from the early days of Vail and Aspen, when those colorful pioneers created their own folklore along the way. For Lou, whose future was uncertain when he pulled out of Steam-boat, his time on the road brings it all into focus. Solo cycling gives way to a journey of romance. Ten years after his epic journey, Lou returns to the Pacific Northwest, this time with his wife, Mari/Moe. Together, they reflect on how they have boldly shaped their dreams into reality and reinvented their lives as inn-keepers in Tulum, Mexico.

Riding 20 hours a day or more for 7-12 days straight, they traverse back roads, brave dangerous conditions and battle mental and physical exhaustion. Fewer than 10 percent of participants are women. They take on the challenge and they excel! Chronicling the journeys of 14 women who participated in the Hoka Hey (Lakota for "Let's do it!") from 2010 to 2013, this feminist cultural analysis relates their often harrowing stories of life on the road and draws comparisons to women in other sports.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This expert guide to competitive ultra-distance cycling is all riders need to cycle a very long way, fast. Ultra-distance events are among some of the greatest challenges a cyclist can face, with riders spending hundreds of miles in the saddle over a 24-hour period, battling the elements and overcoming both physical and mental hardships. What was once elite is now commonplace, and today thousands of dedicated riders cycle up to and over 100 miles on ultra-distance rides every week. To add to this, the increasing profile of major events such as Race Across of America (RAAM), Race Across the Alps (RATA) and Ultracycling Dolomitica means that many more riders are being drawn to the challenge of 'non-stop' endurance cycling. Ultra-Distance Cycling is the first mainstream book to offer practical, authoritative guidance to cyclists looking to step-up to long-distance endurance events, as well as expert advice to established competitors seeking a competitive advantage. Written by a leading sports scientist and a record-breaking ultra-distance cyclist, this unique book is both science and experience based, offering practical and performance-enhancing insights on a wide range of areas. These include physical training and mental preparation, guidance on your support network, advice on PR and sponsorship, as well as all-important sections on equipment, nutrition and the major ultra-distance cycling events. This definitive manual provides riders with everything they need to ride longer and faster, and to excel at ultra-distance cycling events.
