Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists a world much like our own, one parallel to the spirit world. People much like ourselves fight every day to keep both worlds from plummeting into darkness. They are called defenders. The spirit realm is divided into many smaller worlds, like shards of a once-complete painting. They follow their own paths and are vastly different from one another. But time reveals that these worlds have a limited existence, one which appears to be running out. The mission of getting to the bottom of these lands is for a defender. Ryoku Dragontalen has only a matter of days to complete his goal. After a harrying encounter with the fearsome emperor of Orden, Ryoku must recuperate and gather his strength for a second and final showdown with the young emperor, Lars Ordenstraum, an encounter the entire spirit realm has been waiting for. Follow Ryoku Dragontalen once more on his mission to meet a looming deadline as he journeys through new worlds, meeting friends old and new, as he gathers his strength to face what the very gods fear.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book deepens the engagement between 21st century philosophy of mind and the emerging technologies which are transforming our environment. Many new technologies appear to have important implications for the human mind, the nature of our cognition, our sense of identity and even perhaps what we think human beings are. They prompt questions such as: Would an uploaded mind be 'me'? Does our reliance on smart phones, or wearable gadgets enhance or diminish the human mind? and: How does our deep reliance upon ambient artificial intelligence change the shape of the human mind? Readers will discover the best philosophical analysis of what current and near future 21st technology means for the metaphysics of mind. Important questions are addressed on matters relating to the extended mind and the distributed self. Expert authors explore the role that the ubiquitous smart phone might have in creating new forms of self-knowledge. They consider machine consciousness, brain enhancement and smart ambient technology, and what they can tell us about phenomenal consciousness. While ideas of artificial general intelligence, cognitive enhancements and the smart environment are widely commented on, serious analysis of their philosophical implications is only getting started. These contributions from top scholars are therefore very timely, and are of particular relevance to students and scholars of the philosophy of mind, philosophy of technology, computer science and psychology.

Book excerpt: Mind Your Own Life: The Journey Back to Love At last! An authentic message of love and acceptance! Life-enhancing semi-autobiography. Raised a devout Christian in the South and endeavoring to uphold indoctrinated beliefs, Anson struggled to find true affirmation amongst the ambiguity of being gay with religious beliefs that espoused intolerance. After a brief military stint, he married and fathered two children, simultaneously battling depression, anger and fear before finally accepting that he was inherently a gay man. This book deals head on with the divisive issues of religion and politics that have for centuries caused rifts between, countries, families, and facilitated a recent spate of bullying and suicide among teens and gays. He secretly harbored for many years his struggle to suppress his nascent sexuality in hopes of escaping the paradox of being gay with Christian beliefs, hopeful that being gay would vanish and relieve this tremendous burden. Anson sought validation from a religion that despised him wholly. This book; targeting parents, adults, and teens; chronicles Anson’s struggles with depression, denial, and acceptance in the face of extreme homophobia perpetuated by religion, politics and false beliefs. Anson assertively portrays an uncorrupted universal love and acceptance as our inherent birthright and explores the connection with our spirituality, sexuality, and morality. Anson tell his story with sublime prose and grace with inquisitive insight of our human experience. His story is beautifully rendered in a way that is challenging, thought-provoking and inspirational. It hits home for many and told in a way that you will not soon forget.

Readers also will find these topics addressed from a variety of historical, social-scientific, and critical-interpretive perspectives.

Book excerpt: "Mysticism, Mind, Consciousness focuses on first-hand accounts of two distinct types of mystical experiences. Through examination of texts, recorded interviews, and courageous autobiographical experiences, the author describes not only the well-known "pure consciousness event" but also a new, hitherto uncharted "dualistic mystical state." He provides a thorough and readable depiction of just what mysticism feels like. These accounts, and the experiences to which they give voice, arise from the heart of living practices and have substance and detail far beyond virtually any others in the literature."--BOOK JACKET.

Book excerpt: Spanning 1200 years of intellectual history – from the 6th century BCE emergence of philosophical enquiry in the Greek city-state of Miletus, to the 6th century CE closure of the Academy in Athens in 529 – Philosophy of Mind in Antiquity provides an outstanding survey of philosophy of mind of the period. It covers a crucial era for the history of philosophy of mind, examining the enduring and controversial arguments of Plato and Aristotle, in addition to the contribution of the Stoics and other key figures. Following an introduction by John Sisko, fifteen specially commissioned chapters by an international team of contributors discuss key topics, thinkers, and debates, including: the Presocratics, Plato, cognition, Aristotle, intellect, natural science, time, mind, perception, and body, the Stoics, Galen, and Plotinus. Essential reading for students and researchers in philosophy of mind, ancient philosophy, and the history of philosophy, Philosophy of Mind in Antiquity is also a valuable resource for those in related disciplines such as Classics.

Book excerpt: Mind the Screen pays tribute to the work of the pioneering European film scholar Thomas Elsaesser, author of several volumes on media studies and cinema culture. Covering a full scope of issues arising from the author’s work—from melodrama and mediated memory to avant-garde practices, media archaeology, and the audiovisual archive—this collection elaborates and expands on Elsaesser’s original ideas along the topical lines of cinephilia, the historical imaginary, the contemporary European cinematic experience, YouTube, and images of terrorism and double occupancy, among other topics. Contributions from well-known artists and scholars such as Mieke Bal and Warren Buckland explore a range of media concepts and provide a mirror for the multi-faceted types of screens active in Elsaesser’s work, including the television set, video installation, the digital interface, the mobile phone display, and of course, the hallowed silver screen of our contemporary film culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquakes rip through the world as the Creator approaches, the stars fall, the sun goes dark, and the moon proclaims death. Jesus comes and His powerful presence causes the atmosphere to split and roll away. Revelation 6 shows people wailing for the mountains to bury them: “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?” And who does stand in that day? No one. Not a single soul. It's the total annihilation of a vile, self-righteous human race. God's followers expected all of this to happen on October 22, 1844. They watched and waited, but Jesus didn't return. This was only a warning preview of His return in the sixth seal. In God's mercy, He commands to delay the cataclysm of judgment day so that He can send to the world the needed preparation for the day of wrath. That needed preparation comes with the seven trumpets of the seventh seal that occur after 1844. The postponed destruction seen in the sixth seal will yet be a future reality. The Seven Trumpets and the Investigative Judgment examines chapters 4–11 in the book of Revelation and studies how recent events since 9/11 have almost completed God's gracious delay. This book presents a new view of Revelation that meets the biblical rules of prophetic interpretation and of the inspired “testimony of Jesus,” which is “the spirit of prophecy” (Rev. 19:10). How have we done in this waiting period? Will we stand when Jesus returns? By God's grace this book will help you prepare for that great day.
